In December of 2008, Congress unanimously enacted the Worker, Retiree, and Employer Recovery Act of 2008 (WRERA) (P.L. 110-458), which makes several technical corrections to the Pension Protection Act of 2006 (P.L. 109-280) and contains provisions designed to help pension plans and plan participants weather the current economic downturn. This report highlights the provisions of WRERA relating to the economic crisis, such as the temporary waiver of required minimum distributions and provisions that temporarily relax certain pension plan funding requirements.

TUPE 2006 entirely replaces the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations 1981 (SI 1981/1794) which have often been referred to as the TUPE regulations.

A basic Guide for Employers on completing and filing an I-9 form.   U.S. employers are required by law to verify the employment authorization of all workers they hire on or after November 6, 1986, for employment in the United States, regardless of the workers’ immigration status. Employers who hire or continue to employ individuals knowing that they are not authorized to be employed in the United States, or who fail to comply with employment authorization verification requirements, may face civil and, in some cases, criminal penalties.

The Sex Discrimination Act (Amendment) Regulations 2008 amend the provisions of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 ("SDA") in regards to (1) the definition of sex harassment; (2) the definition of discrimination on grounds of pregnancy or maternity leave; and (3) the exceptions applicable to claims of discrimination on grounds of maternity leave. The Regulations also amend the SDA to make it unlawful for an employer to fail to take reasonably practicable steps to protect an employee from persistent third party harassment where the employer has knowledge of such harassment.
