The Department of Labor ruled that qualified default investment alternatives for 401(k) plans can include balanced funds, lifecycle funds and managed accounts. Stable-value funds and money-market funds did not make the cut, which could mean big changes for some companies.
The new rules were a follow-up to last year’s Pension Protection Act (PPA), which cleared the way for companies to automatically enroll employees in 401(k) plans.
